Castillo de Gallinera o de Benirrama, Gallinera or Benirrama Castle, has been watching over the Alicante landscape since the 11th century from its vantage point in La Vall de la Gallinera. This Medieval fortress dates back to the Islamic period and is majestically poised atop a steep rocky crag. Less than four kilometres from the village of Benirrama, the castle is a great site to aim for on a day out hiking. The route is suitable for explorers that have a decent level of fitness.

This castle, located in the dramatic valley of La Vall de Gallinera, stands within the confines of a large wall that features battlements and towers, The old keep and original water cistern are interesting original features to look out for. You’ll encounter the remnants of various living quarters, and the striking outline of the castle as it looms into view is sure to make you feel like you’re on a fairytale adventure.
