Castillo-Iglesia Parroquial de San Miguel Arcángel, San Miguel Arcángel Castle-Parish Church, also known as Pop Castle, sits in the scenic village of Murla, in the county of La Marina Alta, Alicante.

Murla grew around this fortified church, which traces its origins back to the early Islamic period and was strategically built in order to be able to control the pathway between L’Alcoià and La Marina Alta, protecting the citizens from pirate attacks.

In the 16th century, the building was renovated to include the parish church, which features a nave divided into three sections and impressive vaults. It has two towers and the sombre exterior of the building contrasts greatly with the interior religious architecture, accented with Gothic decorations. Don’t miss a visit to San Miguel Arcángal Parish Church-Castle in Murla and go off hiking or MTB cycling in the stunning natural surroundings.
