Javea is one of the municipalities with the greatest tourist allure of the Region of Valencia and its beaches and coves are a great reason. Among its most beautiful coves we must highlight the Portitxol Cove, also known as Barraca Cove, which is located southeast of the municipality.
This cove has a length of about 900 meters and is very popular, so its occupancy level is usually high. In summer the town council limits access to the cove to avoid overcrowding. If you want to enjoy a day at the Barraca Cove we recommend getting up and arriving early. You can access by car from the Cabo de la Nao road or on foot from the Mirador de la Cruz del Portitxol.
This rustic cove is located in an inlet that runs from Cap Prim to Cap Negre, an area full of impressive cliffs covered with Mediterranean vegetation. The beach is made of gravel, pebbles and rocks and the waters are clean and astonishingly deep blue.
If you reach the cove you will see the Portitxol Island in front of you, about 300 metres away. It is an island recommended for scuba diving and has a high botanical and archaeological interest.
The special charm of the Barraca Cove is reflected in the white fishermen houses that you will find on its shore. And if you like snorkeling, this is the perfect place: there is much to discover underwater, the reefs are of great beauty.
Visit the Barraca Cove and, if you're left wanting more, we recommend other nearby coves such as Granadella Cove or Ambolo Cove..
