The Villas of Benicàssim were requisitioned by the Republican government during the last Spanish Civil War, serving as hospitals and logistics centers to care for the wounded from the International Brigades and the battles of Teruel and Madrid. In addition, the Voramar hotel hosted such renowned war journalists as Ernest Hemingway or one of his partners, Martha Gellhorn, considered by many to be the first female war journalist in history. It will be them and their turbulent relationship that will guide us along a route of the Villas rarely seen.
