La Lonja del Cáñamo, the Hemp Exchange in Castelló de la Plana, is an iconic Baroque building located in the city centre, just a stone’s throw from Plaza Mayor. Designed by Francisco Galiança, this unusual rectangular building dates back to the 17th century.

Originally comprising just one floor, the building has two open façades, two large arches supported by Tuscan columns and is decorated by the city’s coat of arms. At one point in history, an upper floor was added with a façade decorated with allegories painted by Joaquín Oliet. In recent times it was renovated, becoming part of Jaume I University and a cultural centre that hosts exhibitions, talks and courses.
