Santa María Magdalena parish church is a pretty church sitting on Plaza de la Iglesia in Moncofa. The remains of the town walls are located nearby. The church is an important place of worship in the town and a listed Site of Local Interest.
The present-day church was built in 1698 on a smaller church dating back to 1329. With its simple and elegant lines, Santa María Magdalena parish church has characteristics of both Valencian Baroque and Neoclassical styles.
The church has a classic basilica shape. Inside, there is a temple dedicated to Santa María Magdalena and the various corridors are lined with coloured wooden figures dedicated to San Isidro and Santa María Magdalena.
The church has a bell tower that was built in the 18th century and later restored. The church bells have, unusually, been named: Ángel de la Guarda, La Purísima, San Antonio Abad and Santa María Magdalena, the largest of them all.
