Discover Colomera Tower, a 16th-century watchtower that was once part of Oropesa del Mar’s coastal defence system.

Torre Colomera, Colomera Tower in Oropesa del Mar (also known as Atalaya Tower and El Colomer Tower), is an old watchtower with lots of history behind it. It is located to the south of the town and next to Vía Verde del Mar. The tower was built in 1553 as part of the coastal defence system intended to counter attacks from Barbary pirates. It was commissioned by Fernando de Antequera and designed to reinforce surveillance, supporting El Rey Tower. Colomera Tower sits atop a limestone promontory, connecting it visually with other nearby towers, making it easier to sound the alert.

Nowadays the tower is in ruins, but it is well worth a visit as it is surrounded by Mediterranean vegetation and affords spectacular views. Colomera Tower has been listed a Site of Cultural Interest by Generalitat Valenciana.
