Peñíscola hosts the 29th International Festival of Ancient and Baroque Music organized by the Institut Valencià de Cultura and the Provincial Council of Castellón, with the collaboration of the city council, which will take place from July 25 to August 3 at the Castillo del Papa Luna and the Palau de Congressos de Peñíscola.

Given the great reception in past editions to the incorporation of cinema to our programming, at At the Gates of the Festival we will screen the award-winning film Farinelli, Il Castrato by Gérard Corbiau, which tells us the life of the famous castrati Carlo Broschi, who triumphed in the opera in the 18th century. Its soundtrack includes works by the great composers of this period, adding to the recognition of Peñíscola as a city of cinema: Peñíscola of cinema… baroque.

On the 26th, before the opening concert, we will call for participation with the Despertà Barroca street show presented by the Villareal Visitants group, who will announce the start of the program.

We will open the Festival with the Alicante group Lucentum XVI and the Quart de Poblet Ad Libitum Chamber Choir, winners of the last Grand Prize for Choral Singing, who will present Strela do dia, dedicated to the female presence in cantigas from the 13th century to our days. The program concludes with the absolute premiere of a motet composed by Pedro Salinas, based on the song Como gradecer ben-feito 235, which recreates the stay of Alfonso X in Requena in 1273, where he met with Jaime I.

The opera will be present on July 27 and 30. The English Armónico Consort will present us, in a concert version, Dido and Aeneas by Henry Purcell, and the Catalans of the Ensemble Contratemps will offer us, this time in a staged version, Monteverdi's opera Il Combatimentto di Tancredi e Clorinda.

Capella de Ministrers remains faithful to the Festival, with the Regina program, and on August 2 we will see that youth and quality can go hand in hand thanks to four soloists, Nuevas Voces del Barroco, mostly promoted by the Center de Perfection de Les Arts , which will present us with a careful selection of arias, duets and trios from the most representative titles of this period.

On July 29 we will receive the famous French group Café Zimmermann, who will offer us the program A night at Mr. Zimmermann's café: Telemann and the Bach family.

On July 31, the Andalusians from the Baroque Orchestra of Seville, together with the Valencian flutist virtuoso David Antich, will present the program Parallel Lives: Vivaldi & Bach.

The Madrid group La Spagna will close the festival on August 3 with the program If Versalles Could Speak…

The music of Monteverdi, Handel and Purcel will illuminate the night of August 1, in which the Fuego Barroco pyromusical show will unite the works of these representative authors with the spectacular nature of fireworks.

Faithful to the programming aimed at family audiences, we will present, from July 27 to 31 at the Casa del Agua, the show El arpa furtiva. The Soprano and Harp duo, formed by Quiteria Muñoz and Úrsula Segarra, will take a tour of the evolution of the harp through the centuries through beautiful melodies and songs from the Middle Ages to the present day, in a show conceived for the Festival. For five consecutive days, this prestigious Valencian group will bring this repertoire to the public of the future.

Consolidated formations together with new high-level values make this festival not only a first-rate artistic proposal, but a unique experience for summer nights in a magical setting.
