While wandering through Sant Mateu, you'll stumble upon Nuestra Señora de los Ángeles Sanctuary, an architectural delight from the 16th to 18th century.

Sant Mateu holds deep devotion for its patron saint, Virgen de los Ángeles, reflected in its most emblematic monument, Santuario de la Virgen de los Ángeles, Nuestra Señora de los Ángeles Sanctuary. This religious site, dating back to between the 16th to 18th century, comprises a Renaissance church, guesthouse, viewpoint and various annex buildings - each preserving centuries of history, artistic expression and religious devotion.

Legend has it that this strong devotion to Virgen de los Ángeles began with a hermit called Sebastián, who found a statue of the Virgin on the altar of the old San Antonio Chapel. This discovery triggered a series of historical events, leaving a lasting impression on the sanctuary.

The site’s architecture combines Renaissance style with Baroque decorations. and its bell tower was added in around 1725.
