Las Murallas de Albaida, Albaida Town Walls, have been listed a Site of Cultural Interest. A number of sections of the walls are still standing, particularly around the parish church. The walls are a magnificent medieval structure that houses four of the old town gates.

Over time, Albaida Town Walls have been integrated into the landscape with more modern buildings absorbing them. You mustn’t leave the town without seeing them.

The walls were built during the Almohad period. Four of the gates are still standing, which we recommend you seek out and take photographs of. Portal Mayor, the Main Gate, flaunting an Al-Andalus style which has been modified over the years, was used for surveillance. Valencia or D'Aljorf Gate connected the centre of the town with the district outside the town walls, while Ontinyent Gate made use of a predating structure, namely an Islamic watchtower. Lastly, La Villa Gate, which is in the Gothic style, leads to Plaza Mayor and a number of sights of interest.

Additionally, Albaida Town Walls have four towers which have survived the passing of time. Three of them are part of the Los Milán de Aragón Castle and Palace, while the fourth – a watchtower – is called Guaita Tower.
