Discover a church brimming with art from different historical periods in an unbeatable location.

La iglesia parroquial de la Asunción de Nuestra Señora, the parish church of la Asunción de Nuestra Señora, is one of Bocairent's most emblematic buildings. It was built on the site of an old castle and consecrated in 1516, and its original Gothic style was transformed with Baroque elements, reflecting the evolution of Valencian art up to the 19th century.

In 1748, an earthquake caused serious damage to this church in Bocairent's historical centre, including the partial collapse of the bell tower, which was later rebuilt.

If you decide to step inside this monument in Bocairent, you will discover three beautiful naves separated by pilasters, boasting sculptures of apostles and frescoes by Vicent Amat dedicated to the Virgin. Spend some time at the neoclassical high altar with altarpieces by Juan de Juanes and works by Josep Segrelles, two great artists of the 16th and 19th centuries, respectively.

The 15th-century baptismal font comes from an old public fountain, and the Baroque decoration in the chapel of the Virgin of the Rosebush, known as the little Sistine Chapel of Mariola, will quite simply take your breath away. As will José Parreu's stunning frescoes. The chapel of San Blas, patron saint of Bocairent since 1632, decorated in the Churrigueresque style by the Vergara brothers, completes the complex.
