Chulilla’s festivals are fantastic excuses to come and spend time at this beautiful village sitting in Los Serranos in the province of Valencia. Keep reading for an overview of the festivities so you can plan your trip.

The first festival of the year is Chulilla Carnival where you can see a children’s parade and processions lining the streets from the castle to the main plaza. Bonfires topped with allegorical effigies are also set alight.

In May, it’s La Enramá de Chulilla, a festival that spans several weekends in honour of San Vicente. The main day of the festivities shines the spotlight on los mayos, songs of the people, which are sung to accompany las grupas, a horseback pilgrimage. Enramás (beautiful branches from poplar trees) are prepared and there are no end of traditions in the street like pollos, human towers.

Chulilla’s festivals continue with Santa Barbara Festival, held on the second week of August. The festivities include an intense week of community dinners, street parties and processions.

At the end of August, it’s La Ermita de Chulilla Festival, held in the district of the same name. You can expect plenty of dinners, dancing, championships and fun.

Last but by no means least, September brings Chulilla’s final festival of the year: Cristo del Perdón. The locals make beautiful artistic crosses for the occasion, traditional songs are sung and night processions snake the streets. Do you fancy experiencing these fascinating events for yourself?
