Rock art is still very much alive in Millares.

The municipality of Millares is home to a number of rock shelters which are part of the Rock Art of the Iberian Mediterranean Basin, which was listed Intangible Heritage by UNESCO in 1998. Set in beautiful scenery, these rock shelters provide a glimpse into the past so we can get an insight into how humans use to live thousands of years ago.

Los Chorradores rock shelter is one of the highlights in Millares. It is located in the Ombrías area where there is a small opening. Inside, you will see the remains of human activity dating back 6,000 years. An example of Levantine Art, the rock art depicts a scene of honey collection. You will see a human figure climbing up a rope with bees flying around them.

Another of the places where you can find examples of rock art is Vicent rock shelter. Situated in El Tambuc ravine, where dinosaur footprints have also been found, you can consider the principal characteristics of Levantine Art. There are two hunting scenes: one showing a group of archers surrounding a deer and another containing a hunter following the blood of an injured goat. You will be taken aback by the protagonists’ expressions, the naturalism of the figures, and the true-to-life depiction of the animals.
