Torre Vigía de Piles, Piles Watch Tower, stands proudly in the heart of La Safor county, Valencia, and is a fine example of 16th-century fortified architecture. This tower in Piles was built in 1577 during the Renaissance era and today still preserves some of its original features. Head to the seafront and you won’t find it hard to find this historic landmark as its majestic silhouette rises into view.
Made of limestone, Piles Watchtower has a sturdy, tapered structure that rises to 13 metres. At the top, 28 stone corbels support the parapet. Its thick walls, measuring 2.8 metres at the base, give it a solid and imposing presence, with a total diameter of 10 metres.
Its two floors were connected by a spiral staircase, with the first level once serving as living quarters. Above the entrance, you’ll find a stone plaque with an inscription.
Piles Watchtower is located amid idyllic coastal scenery that is ideal for a gentle hike.
