Torre de Ria is a tower in Serra, a village located in the province of Valencia. The tower sits next to the trail leading to Fuente l'Ombria. Though it has suffered the effects of time, the remaining ruins give you an idea of what it would have once looked like.
The tower was built between the 8th and 9th centuries, during the Moorish period. It was part of the defence system for Ria, a settlement that no longer exists. When it did, it was located right next to the tower.
The remains of Torre de Ria date back to the Iberian and Roman period, although older remains, from the Neolithic and Bronze ages, have also been found. Families abandoned Ria in the 17th century to move to Serra.
Today Torre de Ria is a Site of Cultural Interest. It is a square construction, measuring 6m on each side. The walls are made of stone and rammed earth. The northern side of the tower has an opening leading to a somewhat small space.
Torre de Ria is on Ruta de las Torres in Serra, a tour that takes you to the various towers in the area, namely Torre del Senyor, Torre de la Ermita, Torre Satarenya and Serra castle. So what are you waiting for? Come and enjoy the landscapes and everything else Serra has to offer.
