Titaguas’ festivals capture the culture and spirit of this charming part of Los Serranos. From religious celebrations to traditional festivities, each and every annual event holds a special significance in local life.
Patron Saint Festivities: The first two weeks of September mark the start of the patron saint festivities in honour of Jesús Nazareno and Virgen del Remedio. The village is filled with fun, cultural, sporting and religious events in an explosion of joy and colour. Every seven years, there is a special edition known as the Fiestas Gordas (literally meaning “the big festivities”) which include the spectacular descent of the Virgen in May.
Grape Harvest Festival: In October, Titaguas pays tribute to wine and the grape harvest, which are the area's economic drivers. Regional dress is worn with pride while dances like jotas and cultural events spotlight the importance of the tradition.
Night of the Candles: On the final weekend of July, a magical atmosphere fills the streets of Titaguas. The streetlights are switched off and thousands of candles are lit, creating a lovely setting for music performances in the most picturesque parts of the village.
Las Hachas Festival: In December, tradition and fire fuse at Las Hachas Festival. The Clavarios teach the younger generations to make hachas, bundles of dry lavender, which are then burnt on a great bonfire.
Las Albadas on Christmas Eve: On Christmas Eve, Titaguas sings traditional albadas to welcome in Christmas. From the youngest residents of the village walking from house to house to the Quintos and Rondalla that sing to the Virgen, this tradition brings generations together and keeps the village’s cultural heritage very much alive.
Titaguas’ festivals are living proof of the history and identity of the community. Join the celebrations in Titaguas where culture and fun intermingle in an unforgettable way.
