From the 16 to 19 March, Pego puts on its Fallas celebrations. Located in the province of Alicante, the whole town heads to the streets for music, gunpowder explosions, and ninots (traditional festival sculptures). On the 16 March it all kicks off with la plantà, where the sculptures are set up on street corners for the public to admire until the 19 when they’re set alight. On the 18, it’s time for the parade, where people show off their traditional attire, and then la Ofrenda in Convento Franciscano, a beautiful flower offering you can’t miss. On the 19, before the la Cremà (mass burning of the sculptures), there’s a final mascletà in Paseo Cervantes - a booming firecracker display; followed by the typical Sant Josep procession before the burning begins. Head to Pego and discover Fallas; a festivity like no other.
