Discover a treasure from our past, an old mill in Santa Pola that reveals the secrets of life in times gone by.

The molino de la Calera, La Calera mill in Santa Pola, is an old flour mill set atop a hill, and dating back to the 19th century. This Santa Pola monument was in use up until 1898. Harnessing the wind's power, via triangular sails attached to a wooden axle, it rotated the heavy millstones with precision.

Orientating the Calera mill to the wind direction was done using a heavy beam, called a guide, which was often an old ship mast repurposed. Nowadays, this mill forms part of the Salt Route, a trail that runs through the natural landscapes of the Santa Pola mountains, offering the perfect historical outing, in a majestic mountain setting, with peaks such as Cabeçó d'Or, Puigcampana and Maigmó in the environs. There is so much to see in Santa Pola, start packing for your getaway!
