This beautiful basilica and its rich history hold a special place for the people of Castelló de la Plana. Step inside to find out more.

Basílica de Nuestra Señora del Lledó, Nuestra Señora del Lledó Basilica, is home to the figure of Castelló de la Plana’s patron saint, Virgen del Lledó. According to legend, it was here that the farmer Perot de Granyana came across the small figurine of the Virgin Mary in 1366.

After a series of renovations and extensions carried out on the small original chapel in the 17th and 18th centuries, Virgen del Lledó Basilica in Castelló de la Plana took on the form we know today. The basilica now boasts a wide central nave with three side chapels, a tiled roof and a glazed dome. Inside, you can admire the grand main altar, processional crosses and an 18th-century wooden carving of the Immaculate Virgin. You'll also find an impressive collection of jewels, paintings and ancient relics. If you happen to be in Castelló de la Plana on the first Sunday of May, don't miss the Mare de Déu del Lledó Festival, which takes place at the basilica and offers fun activities for all ages.
