Guided tour of the Onda Tile Museum

Located on the outskirts of the town, in the road towards Artesa, is the Tile Museum ‘Manolo Safont’, the greatest exponent of Onda’s ceramic tile craftwork. Inside, visitors can explore the rich history and ceramic tradition of the locality through more than 20,000 items housed on this impressive modern building. Be aware that the tile industry has become the main economic engine of the city.

Pottery pieces in display range from original Roman floor tiles and numerous pieces of Gothic tiles to almost contemporary productions. The foremost collections comprise ceramic outputs made in the furnaces of Onda’s workshops alongside 200 years of history.

Onda was one of the most representative institutions of the Valencian ceramic architectural implementation during the 19th and 20th centuries. The fact that many ceramic factories are scattered around the city is quite illustrative. Especially remarkable is the tile industry, which presence over the last three centuries and the diversity of models produced is evidenced by the exhibitions displayed in the Tile Museum.

Between other collections in the museum, you will find a set of ethnological objects, such as presses, machinery or tools, and different archival documents (drawings, catalogues, photographs ...) related to the manufacturing process, design and marketing of tiles.
