L'Alt del Fort y Muralla Carlina, Alt del Fort and Carlina Wall, also known as El Fuerte, is one of Cullera’s most treasured historical sites. Perched in a strategic spot, the fort has witnessed centuries of occupation, from the Iberian era to the 19th century. Its location allowed control over maritime, river and land routes, making it a key trading hub between the coast and the inland areas during the Iberian period. In the Islamic era, its role shifted to a lookout and resource control point, as it stood on the border between the Taifa kingdoms of Valencia and Denia.
Climb up to El Fuerte and breathe in the spectacular views from Alt de Fort Viewpoint, known as the “Balcony of Júcar”. From here, you can admire sweeping views of Cullera’s northern and southern coastline, the old town, rice fields and orange groves stretching to Sueva and Favara. This spot is a must-visit when in Cullera.
