Located in Valle de Cofrentes-Ayora county, Jarafuel is a charming village in inland province of Valencia. It is renowned for its many fountains that are dotted around the municipality as well as for its beautiful natural landscapes. If you are coming to visit Jarafuel and are not sure what to do, make sure you take a look around the parish church.
Santa Catalina Mártir church is located in the centre of Jarafuel. Construction work was completed on the church in the year 1689. The lovely Doric order architecture houses seven chapels with ten altarpieces or altars. Prior to 1689, an old mosque – used for worship – stood on the site, which is close to the castle that is currently in ruins.
In the 1940s, the church underwent a number of interior and exterior renovations to improve its appearance. The main façade is flanked by a handsome square bell tower that is 30m high and has a clock on the northern face. The bell tower is home to four bells.
Come to the parish church to gaze at each and every detail of its lovely decoration. And while you’re at it, make the most of your visit to explore Jarafuel, a peaceful part of inland Region of Valencia that will steal your heart.
