Listed a Site of Local Relevance, the church dates back to the 18th century, when the present-day church was built. Prior to this, Serra constructed its first church in the 16th century, followed by a second in the 17th century, to cater for the rapid expansion of the population. For this reason, the decision was made to build the present-day church.

The church you can see today was designed by the master architect Francisco Pechuan. The locals helped build the church.
