Delve into the history of Cullera and visit Santos Juanes Church.

If you find yourself in Cullera, we recommend stopping by Santos Juanes Parish Church, a historic landmark that reflects the city’s rich religious heritage. Dating back to the aftermath of Jaume I’s Christian conquest, the church was built during a period of profound social, religious and economic transformation in the region. It was constructed on top of the foundations of an earlier church from the 13th and 14th century, and has undergone several renovations over the years.

Beyond its beauty, this historical monument holds many fascinating secrets within its walls. While the bell tower may exhibit a Medieval style, research has revealed that it was actually constructed in the 16th century, the same period when the Crown of Aragón shield was also added. One particularly interesting is the replica of a funerary slab, which can be found in the centre plaza in front of the church. It is adorned with a Maltese Cross and was discovered during archaeological excavations.

Immerse yourself in Cullera’s rich history through the many tales Santos Juanes Church has to tell. Beyond its historical and cultural significance, the landmark is also a breathtaking architectural beauty.
