Visit this beautiful convent in the district of Orito and admire Monforte del Cid's many sights as you fall in love with the local traditions.

Convento de San Pascual Bailón, San Pascual Bailón Convent, sits tucked away in a small village in the county of El Vinalopó Medio in Alicante. Also known as Nuestra Señora de Orito Convent, the 15th-century religious sanctuary is situated in Monforte del Cid, in the town's district of Orito.

The temple built in stone has a wooden roof and is home to a very special religious artefact. Step inside and you’ll see the miniature, 40 mm-tall figure of the Virgin Mary. This sacred sculpture is definitely worth seeing firsthand so that you can admire the tiny details. Check the opening times and head inside for a taste of the local religious culture.

On top of visiting San Pascual Bailón Convent, you could also check out San Pascual Cave, the chapel and its scenic surroundings, such as Sierra de las Águilas y San Pascual Natural Municipal Area. Legend has it that Pascual lived here many centuries ago, hence the devotion around the saint.

Don’t leave Monforte del Cid without trying the local drink Anís Paloma. A great example of an authentic Valencian beverage, this fragrant and refreshing liquor is normally enjoyed with water. Take a sip!
