Witness a charming tradition unfold at a festival in Alaquàs.

Experience one of Alaquàs’ most unique traditions in Valencia: El Cant de la Carxofa. Held every year on the 8th and 9th of September, this event takes centre stage during the town’s patron saint festivities. The 8th honours the Mare de Déu de l’Olivar, while the 9th celebrates the Crist de la Bona Mort.

Both days follow a similar structure: a Mass and procession are held, followed by a child dressed as an angel reciting a musical poem from a carxofa - a beautifully decorated structure resembling a closed flower that opens. Elevated for all to see, the performance is accompanied by an orchestra and a children’s choir.

Music, dance, poetry, distinctive costumes, and fireworks combine to make this traditional religious celebration a vibrant display of art and emotion. With deep roots in the region’s history, it is a treasured part of the county’s cultural heritage. Don’t miss the chance to experience this heartfelt and visually captivating event!
