September in Càrcer is a month of pure celebration. Come and check out how the locals celebrate their patron saint festival.

Fiestas de Càrcer, Càrcer Festival, takes place in Valencia, September every year and comprises a wealth of events and experiences that flood the streets with festive activity. See the high-spirited and playful side of this pretty town in La Ribera Alta.

One of the highlights of the festival is the paella contest, along with the outdoor dinners and live music. And we can’t forget to mention the religious aspect of the celebrations that is often so present during festivals in Valencian towns and villages. Mass and processions form a key part of the festival, with 14 September the day of San Isidro, the 15th that of Virgen de Gracia and the 16th a day dedicated to Christ himself.

The celebrations in Càrcer also feature sporting events, such as a traditional game of Valencian pilota, a football tournament and a fishing competition. And it wouldn’t be a Valencian celebration if it wasn’t for the firework and firecracker display which steals the show and features the infamous and firecracker-fuelled coetà, which takes place in the confines of a cage for safety reasons.

A big live show is organised for Senior Citizens Day, while the little ones can enjoy their very own day - Dia dels Xiquets - with inflatable and aquatic slides and castles. The festival culminates in a big fancy dress parade where everyone is welcome to join in on the streets and add to the bustling atmosphere. Don’t miss Càrcer Festival if you’re looking for a couple of fun-filled days.
