Celebrate Christmas in Càrcer and immerse yourself in the traditional customs of the three wise men.

Les Rastreres and Cabalgata de los Reyes Magos de Oriente, the Three Kings Parade, are fun festive traditions that flood the town of Càrcer in the county of La Ribera Alta, Valencia, with live music and buzzing activity during Christmas. Les Rastreres festival in Càrcer takes place on the morning of the 5th January, when local children come together with homemade garlands of metal cans called rastreres, hence the name of the event. These long strings of cans and old pans drag along the ground, making a terrific noise. The racket is made to attract the attention of the three wise men, Gaspar, Melchior and Balthasar, so that they’ll bring the kids Christmas presents.

Once Les Rastreres is over, the Three Kings Parade unfolds, graced by the presence of the three men themselves escorted by their courts. A reenactment of 'Adoración al Niño Jesús' also takes place, and the presents are finally given out, to the delight of the little ones.

This adorable tradition is a great excuse for a family day out on the 5th January to get stuck into the local festive customs.
